Family Lunch on an Autumn Sunday

Table Setting and Recipe for a Charming Autumn Table

The Sunday family lunch represents one of the rituals of our culture. It’s the appointment that unites Italian culinary tradition with home habits, memories with everyday life. While some cook and others set the table, there are those who arrive early and those who are late, those who bring dessert and those who bring wine, those who joke and those who sulk, those who recount how the week went and those who recall anecdotes from many years ago.

This is how the alchemy is created that remains etched in memory. This is how any ordinary Sunday becomes a moment to remember. And when autumn arrives with its colors and flavors, the atmosphere around the table becomes even more beautiful. A mood that Flavia Priolo of Tè verde e pasticcini has managed to evoke with table setting and recipe inspired by autumn flavors: keep reading to discover all the details!

Fabrics and Dishes for the Autumn Table

For a family lunch on an autumn Sunday, there’s nothing better than a table setting inspired by the typical elements of the season. With a tablecloth featuring botanical patterns from the Forêt Enchantée collection, the table immediately takes on a rustic yet sophisticated note. Thanks to leaves, berries, and mushrooms that seem to be painted in watercolor on the fabric. A true must-have for lovers of foliage and the autumn undergrowth!

The addition of some warm-toned placemats, such as beige or terracotta, highlights the simplicity of the Alcina ceramics, also serving as underplates. To complete everything, never forget the napkins: if you choose them in linen or natural cotton and gently place them on the plate, pairing them with small autumn ornaments will make the setting even more refined and charming. Just a few chestnuts or pine cones will do.

Accessories and Decorations for the Autumn Table Setting

At the center of the scene and the table, a composition created with some of autumn's symbols: large and small pumpkins, pomegranates, dry leaves, grape cones, and mushrooms that seem to have emerged from an enchanted forest. The latter are part of the Casa de Floresta collection, made with natural materials and colors inspired by the secret charm of the season sliding into winter.

But that's not all. To complete the country chic style of this table setting, there are the accessories from the Enchanted Forest line: trays, cloches, and stands in glazed wood that feature the same motifs as the tableware. A perfect coordinated set for an impeccable yet welcoming and cheerful table. Ideal for a lunch in company!

Typical Colors and Flavors of the Season

As Flavia Priolo wrote in the caption of her reel, “autumn is the thousand shades at sunset, it is the ochre of leaves that turn yellow, the brown of branches that slowly shed, it is roasted chestnuts and pomegranates.” A season made of hues capable of making the home warmer and the atmospheres more intimate. In particular, the color trends for autumn 2024 favor:

  • Earthy shades with browns that lend themselves to creating reassuring, soft, and cozy spaces in combination with natural tones;
  • Vegetative gradations with a range of greens from forest to sage to bring a sense of tranquility and elegance by bringing nature indoors;
  • Golden tones ranging from gold yellow to mustard, ideal for creating welcoming environments in the colder months with a nod to luxury and glamour;
  • Rusty hues that vary from terracotta to burnt orange and rust to bring positivity and energy into the home.

A palette that finds its counterpart in the typical flavors of this season, such as pumpkin, mushrooms, chestnuts, and persimmons; or even berries, pomegranates, leeks, and grapes. Gifts that nature provides us to align with the rhythm of the seasons, even at the table. The first dish proposed by Flavia Priolo is a demonstration of this: here is the recipe for you to savor it as well!

An Autumn Recipe: Casarecce with Pumpkin, Leek, and Toasted Hazelnuts

Ingredients for 4 people:

  • 150 g of pumpkin
  • 320 g of casarecce pasta
  • 1 leek
  • 50 g of hazelnuts
  • 20 ml of milk
  • salt, oil, pepper to taste
  • rosemary (optional)

In a frying pan, add the leek sliced into rounds with a generous amount (at least 3 tablespoons) of oil and sauté for a moment. Meanwhile, cut the pumpkin into small cubes, add it to the sauté and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, covering with a lid until soft. Adjust with salt and pepper, then add rosemary to your liking.

Boil the casarecce, draining them at least a couple of minutes before the desired doneness. At this point, toss them in the pan with the pumpkin and combine by adding a bit of milk. The final touch is the crunchy note given by the hazelnuts previously chopped. The advice is to add half of the hazelnuts you have available and leave the rest for when you plate the pasta in individual dishes.
